Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting 11-inning clash where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a aggregate 51 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this marks the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the last finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match World Series averaged 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million watchers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason performance since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
